8 Steps to Prepare for a Showing
Showings are a very important step towards selling your property. This means it is critical that your home looks it’s very best. Not sure where to begin? Look no further! Follow these eight steps to make sure your home is properly prepared for a fabulous showing!
1) Remove Clutter
It’s easy for everyday clutter to build up. Be sure to tidy up your house by removing this clutter before a big showing! Fold and put away towels, dish rags, toys, pet supplies, and even small appliances. Cleaning up these items is a simple way to make your home look more appealing.
2) Deep Clean
Deep cleaning can make an enormous difference. Start by wiping down counters, mirrors, and cabinets. Then vacuum, sweep, and/or mop the floors to bring out a nice shine. Also, don’t forget to clean the toilets and showers and take out the garbage. A pristine home will increase the chances of buyers liking what they see!
3) Do the Little Things
Don’t forget to do the little things to make your home look perfect. Make sure all the beds in each room are made with clean sheets/comforters. Change out your regular towels for bright white show towels. Put all the toilet seat covers down, fold any blankets, and fix up couch pillows. These details may seem minor, but they can make a big difference if missed!
4) Organize Closets
You may be tempted to throw any clutter into a closet for easy clean-up, but you must restrain yourself from this! Your prospective buyers are sure to be curious about storage space. This will cause them to open up your closets, revealing any mess. Stay ahead of this by organizing your closets. Hang up and fold clothes and use organization bins or boxes to keep everything looking sharp!
5) Hide Valuables
Though your realtor will do their best to keep an eye out, hiding any valuables in your home is essential. After all, you are inviting strangers into your home. So put your items in a safe or hidden spot. If you don’t feel comfortable leaving certain items, take them with you during the showing.
6) Landscape
Don’t forget about the outside of your home! Your front porch/yard acts as a first impression for potential home buyers. Mow your lawns, trim hedges and trees, and put away any toys from children or pets. If you have a pool, try to fish out leaves and insects. Make the outside of your home look clean and kept up!
7) Replace Bad Odors with Good
Do sniff tests around your home to locate any foul odors. Usually, these odors may come from trash or drains. If you find any bad areas be sure to remove the culprit. You may also want to add pleasant smells with air fresheners or room sprays. Bad smells turn people away quickly, so be sure your home smells nice and fresh!
8) Open Up
Open up all blinds and curtains, turn on your lights, and open interior doors to make the space feel bigger and brighter. This will create a happier setting and will allow potential buyers to see your home in its best state.
Preparing for a showing can definitely be stressful. However, these tips should help ease that stress. Your next showing should be a great success if you follow these steps to enhance your home!
